Letter to the editor (Collegian PSU)

Portland attitude indicative of PSU campus atmosphere

After finding out that Rene Portland had resigned ("Portland resigns," March 23), I had many emotions run through me, but mainly I felt relieved. Those students who worked very hard to educate the community about homophobia and other forms of discrimination can rest easy, at least for tonight. There is no room for a coach who discriminates, or a professor, or a student or anyone for that matter. But this is not the end. Just last night at the Cell Block, a few boys took time out of their schedule to tell me I looked like a fag, and when I responded they swore to "slit my throat." Rene Portland is a symptom of what is happening on this campus, and I'm glad she's been made an example of.
